                       TREE science

If you stood with your feet in the earth
Up to your ankles in grass
And your arms had leaves running over them
And every once in awhile one of your leafy fingers
Was nudged by a bird flying past,
If the skin that covers you from top to tip
Wasn’t skin at all, but bark
And you never moved your feet from their place
In the earth
But stood rooted in one spot come
Rain
Wind
Snow
Sleet
Thaw
Spring
Summer
Winter
Fall
Blight
Bug
Day
Dark
Then you would be me:
A tree.

Children will learn all about trees, and most of all will enJOY learning, as they romp through the woodlands, the ridge, and pondside, exploring, observing and discovering the many species of trees at Harmony Woods Farm.

The children will keep a Tree Journal with their observations and discoveries, artwork, poetry ( individual/group) and results of our activities and experiments.

They will observe and record the steadfast tree from the barren of winter with its buds apparent, to its flowering, and to the leafing out with its own unique leaves.

It is my hope that children will have an increased awareness of, and appreciation for trees, (and nature as a whole) and this experience will become a source of inspiration as they grow.

It is only with knowledge and personal experience that children can relate to and care deeply about trees, nature and our earth forever.
