I am a Mother (to my six children and the earth), an Educator
(through parenting , homeschooling, degree in Nursing, and life experience), an Artist (through quilting, mixed-media and self-expression) and a Naturalist (from my passion for the natural world, animals and the glorious acreage we live upon).
Children and family have been my priority and passion in life. I have six happy and successful children. Three are on their own (college graduates), one still in college (a senior), and two children are at home. My two youngest children are homeschooled, or rather, they are independent learners who live a rich, full life by following their passions. They are 13 and 11 1/2. I am also a grandmom to a toddler and an infant who are the light of my life.
I graduated from Northeastern University and have a BSN in Nursing. I am a Registered Nurse although I am not working as one now.
We live on a 12+ acre farm, that we built over 4 1/2 years ago, and consider it our Joyful Journey with it's abundance of nature and all our animals.
We have two Haflinger horses, five French Angora rabbits, a Dwarf house rabbit, five Pekin ducks, and Barred Rock, Buff Orprington and Rhode Island Red chickens. and a Bulldog.
I am passionate about Nature, Children, Animals and Art. I love to work with children and have given various workshops in Horses, Nature Journaling, Quilting and Art over the past few years.
A NEST IN NATURE came to be from my love of children, love for my workshops and the sharing of my passions, and the desire to start my own business.
I believe children learn best by LIVING, by taking an active part in life, being able to do as much as they can, as safety allows. Children are very capable beings, often under-estimated by adults.
I am inspired by a combination of Charlotte Mason, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and the Unschooling philosophy.
Harmony Woods Earth School will open the fall of 2010. It will be a natural extension of A Nest in Nature welcoming children between the ages of 7 and 10, homelearners, who want a deeper connection with nature and animals while exploring, discovering, investigating, and observing with other children on a regular basis. The children will record their joyful journey. See HARMONY WOODS EARTH SCHOOL
